Adoptify is an innovative application that facilitates the adoption of stray pets, particularly dogs and cats, in the Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek) and Malang (East Java) areas. Developed by a team of students from various universities in Indonesia, including the University of Brawijaya, National Institute of Technology Malang, and Sebelas Maret University, this app aims to reduce the number of stray animals and raise public awareness about the importance of animal care.

Adoptify offers two main features:

  1. Adoption: Facilitates the pet adoption process by connecting potential adopters with trusted fosters (caregivers of stray animals) in the Jabodetabek and Malang regions.

  2. Visual Pet Wellbeings: Provides reminders for pet care such as feeding, bathing, vaccinations, and medical history tracking to ensure the wellbeings of pets.

Objectives

This mobile application design project functions as a pet adoption platform. I developed it alongside colleagues who had completed the learning process at the Bangkit Academy 2023 program, led by Google, Gojek, Tokopedia, and Traveloka (Batch 2). Adoptify was awarded a spot as one of the Top 10 Product-Based Capstone Projects (Incubator) in the Human Healthcare and Living WellBeings category, beating out more than 450 other Capstone Project teams.

Visual Branding

Building visual branding for a pet adoption application like Adoptify involves an approach that focuses on the following core values:

  • Emotional: Connecting Heart to Heart
The branding reflects a deep emotional connection between humans and pets. This value can be conveyed through:

    1. Warm and Comforting Colors: Use a color palette such as soft orange, peach, or pastel pink to evoke warmth and love.

    2. Friendly Typography: Choose modern sans-serif fonts like Montserrat or Poppins with soft curves to provide a welcoming and accessible impression.

    3. Images and Illustrations: Include expressive images of happy pets and illustrations of hands touching or hugging animals to depict intimacy.

  • Friendly: Creating a Space for Everyone
Adoptify should appear inclusive and accessible to all. This can be achieved through:

    1. Minimalist Design: Simple visual elements that are easy to understand, with intuitive iconography.

    2. Smooth Animations: Add small animations like paw prints jumping or buttons with subtle movements to make the app feel lively.

    3. Positive Tone of Voice: All text in Adoptify, from CTAs to notifications, should use supportive and cheerful language.

  • Connected to Human Values: Community and Empathy
Adoptify needs to demonstrate that it is more than just an app; it’s a caring community. This can be accomplished by:

    1. Human-Centric Symbols: Use icons like hands, hearts, or community circles that connect humans and animals.

    2. Visual Campaigns: Highlight adoption success stories with touching before-and-after visuals.

    3. Memorable Tagline: "Where’s Love, Find a Home."

  • Logo Design for Adoptify
Concept: The Adoptify logo is designed with a paw print icon forming a heart, symbolizing love and the connection between humans and pets.

    1. Colors: A combination of warm orange and teal to balance energy, warmth, and trust.

    2. Typography: Modern sans-serif fonts are chosen to give a clean, professional, yet friendly impression.

    3. Flexibility: The logo is designed to be versatile, and suitable for various sizes and formats, from mobile apps to digital marketing materials.

  • Digital Branding for Adoptify
Social Media: Consistent visuals using brand colors and design styles, such as Instagram feeds featuring adoption success stories of pets and Digital Advertising: Banners and short videos with emotional messages like, “Give a New Home to Those in Need.”

By emphasizing these values, Adoptify becomes a brand that is not only visually appealing but also builds emotional connections and trust with its users. Find out more on Bēhance and Dribbble platform.

Features

  • Simplified Navigation: The app is designed with simple, intuitive navigation. Each screen directs users to the main features quickly, with easily recognizable icons and sufficiently large buttons to prevent accidental clicks, creating a smoother experience.

  • Consistent Visual Hierarchy: The design prioritizes important elements like adoption buttons and pet images. Contrasting colors ensure key aspects, such as call-to-action (CTA) buttons, are visible, improving user orientation.

  • Interactive Feedback: Every user interaction is met with visual feedback, such as animations or color changes, signaling their actions succeeded. For instance, selecting a pet results in subtle visual changes to confirm the selection.

  • Intuitive Forms: The forms in the app are streamlined, requesting only the necessary information for the adoption process. Clear instructions accompany the form fields, and overly complex inputs are avoided, simplifying the user's data entry.

  • Mobile Responsiveness: The responsive design ensures the app works smoothly on various mobile devices, with UI elements that are easily accessible even on smaller screens, ensuring user comfort.

  • User-Centered Design: The design is entirely focused on user needs, with visual elements that are both functional and emotional. High-quality pet images and adoption stories create deep emotional connections, giving users a heartwarming experience. Every interaction is designed to make users feel valued and engaged.

Results & Achievements

Here are the results and awards that Adoptify has received during the app's development process:

  • Top 10 Product-Based Capstone Project: Beating out more than 450 other Capstone Project teams, this achievement reflects Adoptify's innovative approach in the pet adoption industry and its positive impact on society.

  • Full Funding Support: The project received full funding from Google Indonesia and Dikti Ristek of The Republic of Indonesia, allowing for the mobile app's development, which was later launched on the Play Store.

  • Soft-Skill Challenge Success: Received additional points and recognition for the compelling design in the 2nd Soft-Skill Challenge Elevator Pitch. This helped Adoptify secure a place among the Top 50 Winners of Challenge 2: Pitch Your Capstone Project and Top 100 Early-Bird Valid Submitters in Challenge 2.

These awards and the app's positive reception demonstrate the significant impact Adoptify has made in the pet adoption industry and the broader tech ecosystem. These accolades emphasize Adoptify's potential to continue evolving and reach more users in the future.

Conclusions

The Adoptify app successfully combines functional design with an emotional user experience. With simple navigation and consistent visuals, users can easily explore the app. The intuitive search features and forms offer a fast and efficient adoption experience, while the responsive design ensures comfort across devices. Additionally, Adoptify emotionally connects with users through appealing pet images and stories, making the experience functional and meaningful.

Through Adoptify, we have built an effective, empathetic platform that greatly benefits both pets and adopters. This project marks a significant step in designing solutions that solve problems and positively impact the lives of animals and users.
